The day of the Lord

I do like to discuss the greatness of our king, who is called king of all kings, because he has received His kingdom, and he reigns! I am speaking of Christ the Lord, the one we call Jesus (For the record). This testimony is to all who seek truth, and are willing to become as a child to receive it.

This is how the "day of the Lord" was to go down. Vengeance. Wrath. Utter desolation upon the enemy's of God. John the baptist was sent from God in the spirit and power of Elijah before this day, and Jesus came and pronounced it, Saying to the daughters of Jerusalem as He carried his cross, dripping in blood: "weep not for me, but for your sons and daughters", and to the workers of the temple as they came to his baptism by John: "who warned you to flee from the wrath to come!". Saying: "These are the days of vengeance to fulfill all that is written", saying: Now is the judgment of this world".

We see this wrath spoken of by all the prophets, how for a very long time, God would send prophets to His people, but they would kill them. Even people working in God's name! The shame of it! Jeremiah and others had cried out to God for vengeance on those who killed the prophets, those were the enemy's of God, and the time had come for the wrath of God to fall like a stone upon the workers of the temple. Jesus made this very clear.

Jesus also said he was coming, as a thief, would not be not seen here or there, saying his reward was with him, saying there would be weeping and gnashing of teeth, Saying Jerusalem would soon be surrounded by armies, saying "truly, this generation will not pass until all be fulfilled". Jesus referred to this day of the lord as coming in the glory of His father, with His angels with him, and as his reward was with him, with his enemys behind him, he would sit on his throne of glory.

That some would think this throne of glory is a little chair surprises me. As the lightning shines everywhere, so too is his kingdom and throne of glory, not here or there, but everywhere! That some might say God's enemy's are merely modern day sinners surprises me, that is why God sent his beloved Son, to take away the sins of the world, a great mercy of God that changed everything! God's enemy's were the forces of darkness, and those who killed the prophets, even as they claimed to be working for God! The workers of the temple in Jerusalem, the whole house, the whole people. Jesus made this very clear.

Now some not be aware of how this all went down, so I will present some historical facts, as recorded in "Wars of the Jews"...

HISTORICAL EVENTS OF THE SIEGE OF JERUSALEM:

  • For seven years leading up to 70AD, 1,337,490 perished
  • Forty two months was the siege, roughly 66.5 - 70 A.D
  • A star appeared in the likeness of a giant sword in the sky, lasting a year
  • A comet was seen, lasting a week
  • There was a massive earthquake, more than 8000 died
  • The sea roared and bodies of merchants washed up for weeks
  • An army of horsemen appeared in the sky!
  • Visions of angelic beings were seen all over Judea
  • A frightful noise was heard, a pop that sounded like the universe
    exploded
  • A heifer gave birth to a lamb on the temple grounds

And as the Temple was made desolate:
  • A multitude of voices were heard born from heaven saying "LET US REMOVE HENCE!".
  • The massive gates of the temple swung open seemingly on their own accord, welcoming the invaders, angels were seen near.
  • Tens of thousands were killed.
  • Not one stone of the temple was left upon another because there was gold between each one, and the Roman army pried apart each one for the gold.

Now if this happened today, don't tell me you would not think it was an act of God! Truth is, it was an act of God, and the day had overcome those in darkness, who rejected Christ, as a theif. By this time, all the Apostles were killed, so there is no written record in the Bible from them, and While all the first century saints who remained had received Jesus' warning to flee the city when they seen Jerusalem surrounded by armies, those who rejected Christ did not. This blindness is recorded in history, in the "Wars of the Jews"...

"Now there was then a great number of false prophets suborned by the tyrants to impose on the people, who denounced this to them, that they should wait for deliverance from God" - Wars of the Jews, book 6 ch. 5

"Thus were the miserable people persuaded by these deceivers, and such as belied God himself; while they did not attend nor give credit to the signs that were so evident, and did so plainly foretell their future desolation, but, like men infatuated, without either eyes to see or minds to consider, did not regard the denunciations that God made to them."- - Wars of the Jews, book 6 ch. 5

Let's suppose for just a moment that Jesus definitely wanted the 1st century people He was among to understand that His coming was imminent; that He was even going to come in their generation. What sort of things do you suppose He could say so as to best convey that message? Well, I would think that an expression such as: "Verily I say unto you this generation will not pass" would be good, or even to his disciples: "Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come" would be good, perhaps: "Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom", would be good, or even: "These are things that must shortly come to pass" would be good. Surely, He could say: "The time is at hand, or near!" Or, He could even say: "Behold I am coming quickly!".

It just may be that the day of the Lord did come as a "stealer" at "midnight"; in which "the abode of God" did pass away with a "crash", and the "The former arrangement and orderly principles" were "put off" with "consuming fire", the "region" also and the "deeds" that were therein were "wholly consumed". And so it is, the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father.

    What now?

John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
